Small Plane Crash Saturday in South Spokane County

Spokane County Deputies responded to multiple reports of a downed plane in the 3400 block of W. Smythe Rd. in South Spokane County.  The two adult male occupants of the small single engine plane sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

On September 29, 2018, at approximately 10:00 a.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to multiple calls reporting a small plane crashed in a field to the northeast of S. Short and W. Smythe Roads.

Arriving Deputies were led by witnesses to the scene of the downed aircraft.  The two occupants, both from the Spokane area, were assisted from the plane prior to the arrival of first responders and were lying on the ground.  Both adult males were injured and transported to a local hospital for additional medical treatment.

Deputies were told the single engine plane was attempting to land at a small landing field in the area when the pilot experienced a problem, lost altitude and didn’t clear the tree line.

One occupant, a 42-year-old male, is still hospitalized as of this afternoon and is listed in satisfactory condition.  The second occupant, a 70-year-old male, has been treated and released.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were notified of the incident.
