Pizza Delivery for Suspected Burglar Foiled by Arrest

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrested 28-year-old Derek J. Dolan for burglary after an alert neighbor reported seeing a suspicious male break into the garage of a vacant home.  A short time after Dolan’s arrest, a pizza delivery driver arrived at the residence with a pizza.  Dolan admitted the pizza had been ordered for him but due to his pending transport to jail, the delivery was denied.

On July 4, 2017 at approximately 9:45 p.m., an alert neighbor reported seeing a male break into the garage of a vacant home near her residence on N. Monroe.

Deputy Stan Kravtsov was the first patrol unit to arrive at the clearly vacant home.  As Deputy Kravtsov approached the breezeway, between the residence and the unattached garage, a male later identified as Dolan exited the side door of the garage with a backpack in his hand. Deputy Kravtsov announced his presence which surprised Dolan, causing him to immediately drop his backpack.

Dolan complied with commands and once Deputy Kyle Leavenworth arrived to assist, Dolan was detained without incident.

After being advised of his rights, Dolan told deputies a friend gave him permission to sleep in the garage.  He admitted his friend didn’t own the residence and he did not know how to contact the actual owner.  Deputies contacted the owner of the residence and were told he doesn’t know Dolan, no one had permission to enter the home or garage and he wanted Dolan to be prosecuted for breaking in.

While Dolan was being questioned, deputies were surprised to see a pizza delivery driver arrive at the location with a pizza.  Dolan said he asked his dad to order the pizza and have it sent to the residence.  The driver was informed of the situation and the pizza was not accepted.

Dolan was found to have two active warrants for his arrest (Possession of a Controlled Substance & Theft charges) and while searching Dolan’s backpack, deputies located a small container with a small amount of a substance believed to be methamphetamine inside.  The substance was later field tested which showed a presumptive positive result.

Dolan was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Burglary 2nd Degree, Possession of a Control Substance-Methamphetamine and his warrants.
